Suffering and the Cross
‘If a man wishes to come after Me, he must deny his very self, take up his
cross, and follow in My steps. Whoever would preserve his life shall lose
it, but whoever shall lose his life for My sake and the gospel, will
preserve it. What profit does a man who gains the whole world and destroys
himself in the process? What can a man offer in exchange for his life?’
(Mark 8:34-37)
The Eucharist
‘How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of Hosts! My soul yearns and
pines for the courts of the Lord. My heart and my flesh cry out for the
living God.’ (Psalm 84:2-4)
Importance of Prayer
‘Rejoice always, never cease praying, render constant thanks, such is God’s
Will for you in Christ Jesus.’ (1 Thes. 5:16-18)
Love
‘Love is patient, love is kind. Love is not jealous, it does not put on airs
(pride), it is not snobbish. Love is never rude, it is not self-seeking, it
is not prone to anger nether does it brood over injuries. Love does not
rejoice in what is wrong but rejoices with the truth. There is no limit to
love’s forbearance, to its trust, its hope its power to endure … There are
in the end three things that last … FAITH, HOPE, AND LOVE,
AND THE GREATEST OF THESE IS … LOVE!’. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7, 13)
The Holy Trinity –
God the Son
‘It is in Christ and through His Blood that we have been redeemed and our
sins forgiven, so immeasurably generous is God’s favour to us. (Ephesians
1:7)
‘I Myself am the bread of life. No one who comes to Me shall ever be hungry,
no one who believes in Me shall ever thirst’. (John 6:35)
God the Holy Spirit
‘God has not called us to immortality but to holiness: hence, whoever
rejects these instructions rejects not man, but God who sent His Holy Spirit
upon you.’ (1 Thessalonians 4:7-8)
God the Father
‘Only in God is my soul at rest, from Him comes my salvation, my stronghold,
I shall not be disturbed. With God is my safety and my glory, He is the rock
of my strength, my refuge is in God. Trust in Him at all times, O my people!
Pour out your hearts before Him, God is our refuge!’ (Psalm 62:2,7-9)
The Lord’s Coming
‘You know very well that the day of the Lord is coming like a thief in the
night. Just know people are saying, peace and security, ruin will fall on
them with the suddenness of pains overtaking a woman in labour, and there
will be no escape … therefore, let us not sleep like the rest, but awake and
sober! Sleepers sleep by night and drunkards drink by night. We who live by
day must be alert, putting on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope
of salvation as a helmet.’ (1 Thessalonians 5:2-3, 6-8)
The Institution of the Holy Eucharist
‘Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and
gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.' And he took
a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, 'Drink of
it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out
for many for the forgiveness of sins”.’ (Matthew 26:26-28)
‘For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour. Fear
not, for I am with you’. (Isaiah 43:5)
‘Father into thy hands I commit my spirit!’ (Luke 23:46)
‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ (Luke 18:13)
‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God. He was in the beginning with God, all things were made through Him, and
without Him was not anything made that was made.’ (John 1:1-3)
‘Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. I am the
bread of life.’ (John 6:47-48)
‘I am the living bread which came down from heaven, if anyone eats of this
bread, he will live forever, and the bread which I shall give for his life of
the world is My flesh.’ (John 6:51)
‘Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.’
(John 8:7)
‘I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, but by
Me.’ (John 14:6)
But I say to you, do not resist one who is evil. But if anyone strikes you
on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. … Give to him who begs from
you, and do not refuse him who would borrow from you. … Love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your father
who is in Heaven.’ (Matthew 5:39,42,44)
Trust in God
‘Therefore do not be anxious
about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day’s own
troubles be sufficient for the day.’ (Matthew 6:34)
‘Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly
are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits.’ (Matthew 7:15-16)
‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.’
(Matthew 5:3)
‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.’ (Matthew 5:8)
‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.’
(Matthew 5:9)
‘Father forgive them for they know not what they do.’ (Luke 23:34)
‘He has risen’ (Mark 16:6)
‘Peace be with you’ (John 20:21)
‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not
seen and believe.’ (John 20: 29)
